Parco Incubator Fashion Show Collection

As everyone know, I am recently selected to be in the Parco incubator project for promising young designers when they open in Spring 2010. I have decided to launch a new label under my own name-Vivienne Lin. And I am so happy and thankful my mentor is the fashion veteran Thomas Wee! He is really a GREAT designer and dedicated teacher. The designs will be sexy yet sensible with clean sophisticated lines and the signature touch of chinoiserie and lace. To all those who have missed the fashion show and am curious about the collection I created. Here goes.

2 piece mandarin collar suit made of tweed light summer wool with black lace over nude and zipper details. With matching tote bag with black tassels.

2 piece long sleeve jacket suit. Skirt has brocade side details.

Blousson jacket with crochet black lace details, stretch satin cotton black mandarin collar shirt and matching capris.

Dress with tweed summer wool, black brocade and zipper details. With matching taselled lace and tweed clutch. Have seen many ladies "drooling" over this clutch.

Cape with exagerated mandarin buttons and cut outs. Wide leg pants with crotchet lace details.

One of the tote bags we created for this show. Has leather handles and uses a mix of black brocade, tweed wool with long black tassels all around. Many models for that night have placed orders for this bag even before it is officially produced.

With my mentor Thomas Wee. He has helped greatly to sharpen my design skills and achieve the next level of design sophistication and maturity. Thank you Thomas!

Yes many people could not believe I design this. Well design is about breath-through and evolution of design styles. I wanted Vivienne Lin and Fuchsia Lane these 2 labels to have different styles even though they are oriental inspired. Please give me your comments to this new collection - be it good or bad.

You can comment everything from the colours to the style to the materials or models used or anything. Email your comments to fashion.suite@fuchsialane.com. As we really value your comments, 5 lucky winners who reply with comments will win a $38 voucher. :)

The Tokyo Design Exchange

Hey everyone,

Am just back from Tokyo-the land of geishas, sushis and cutting edge Japanese designers. As mentioned earlier, I am selected to be in PARCO's young fashion designer zone next year. So am sent on a 6 day design exchange trip to learn the best design practices from the likes of Comme des Garcon, Issey Miyaki and Limi Feu and the branding masters. This trip is organised by Parco, Spring Singapore and Textile and Fashion Federation.

My trip was packed back to back with workshops, trade fair visits and site visits to important flagship stores. It was an eye-opener to learn from the maestros, witness their luxurious tailoring, their creative visual merchandising and their amazing customer service experience! Every designer has created a very strong universe of their own. So am bursting with inspiration. But meanwhile enjoy the pictures below.

At Narita airport.

With one of our mentors David Wang, the designer of IS, and the other young designers outside of PARCO Japan.

Limi Yamamoto-the daughter of Yohji Yamamoto who is also a famous designer in her own right. She is sharing with us her experiences of showcasing at the Paris Fashion Week.

Editor of fashion web magazine. As you can see she is sharing some Japanese street fashion trends. Everyone dresses to make a statement on Tokyo's streets!

Snapping away during breaktime. We had 6 workshops packed in a day!

Editor of one of the largest Japanese fashion magazine publisher. They publish female titles that cater from teenagers to mature ladies and she is giving a talk on the Japanese fashion market.

Bunka Fashion College-The prestigious place which has nurtured Kenzo Takada, Yohji Yamamoto. We had a design exchange with the students and teachers there.

Sketches of the Bunka Fashion College students on display

Textiles division with a well stocked library of every textile imaginable.

Taito Designer Village-an incubator programme where promising designers are given business support and workshop space.

Creative accesories display at one of the designer's workshop in Taito Design Village

Fabric library at Taito Design Village.

Taken with magazine editor Takano-san

Welcoming speech by Managing Director of Parco Japan

Talk by visual merchandising expert Mr Noguchi on promoting products in your shop.

The venue of ROOMS- a trade fair for budding designers to showcase and sell their works. This place is also called Yoyogi National Stadium

Inspiring Tokyo shops

We were taken on a visit to various themed stores and flagship shops with inspiring visual merchandising and window display. Amazing! I am pretty impressed with their presentation and packaging techniques. Just makes you go goo goo gaga and want to enter the shop even though you dont know what exactly they are selling. Will have to re-arrange my own store after this. :)

The entrance of a jewellery store where every little thing is breathing its branding essence. From the entrance to the presentation to even the uniforms they wore.

Those displayed on the plate are pieces of delectable jewellery. And this place looks more like a chocolate museum.

I didnt know what this shop sells until I step inside. It looks so pretty outside. They sell jewellery!

Lamp Harajaku filled with dainty dresses. My dream shop. I have always wanted a 2 storey shophouse decorated like it was from a storybook. Shall perservere on. It is amazine how young designers there can afford the rents in main shopping belt even when I was told they receive zero support from goverment.

The cashier cum display counter at a hip multi label store called Opening Ceremony there.

Those are actually fitting rooms. Cute isnt it?

The signage of the chocolate shop. Doesnt it look more like a Gucci shop signage to you? Wah..
